A Blackwood Birthday

Posted

One year ago today, The Blackwood Errantry Codex Kickstarter campaign came to a close. What an adventure it’s been! Producing the book was a learning experience but we encountered very few meddlesome elves on our path to publication. Working with artists, designers, and writers in the RPG community was a sincere pleasure. Interacting with backers was one of the most supportive and encouraging experiences we’ve had inside or outside of the gaming world. And to top it all off, interest in the book after the Kickstarter has allowed us to pave the way for new supplements set in The Blackwood!

All this is thanks to the 286 backers who believed in us a year ago. You pushed us over our goal and helped us to realize (and exceed the hopes of) our dreams. From the bottom of our hearts: THANK YOU!

A Birthday Sale!

What’s Next at the Way’s Margin?

We’re busy preparing a few supplements for The Blackwood before we turn our attention to the next big Mythic Gazetteer projects. Some of these will expand the support for The Blackwood in the Savage Worlds system, while others will introduce new audiences to the slippery magic and high-flying action of life in this magical forest.

The Summer Greening

Once upon a time, the Spearwood Fellowship struck out from Denvorn Province to open the eastern wilds for settlement. Then the Elder King disappeared, the forest grew dark, and dreams of expansion crumbled. Now the Spearwood Fellowship trains to run through the treetops and to repel fearsome creatures with their flashing spears.

It is the first week of autumn. The Fellowship has less than a year before the next summer’s Greening, when the magic of the forest reaches its most malevolent heights. Will the Spearwood Fellowship overcome the trials of life in the Blackwood, or will they falter like the dreams of expansion from which they were born? We play to decide.

An early playtest map from The Summer Greening.

First on the docket is a hack for Avery Alder’s The Quiet Year. It’s no surprise that Eli loves maps, and it’s no secret that The Quiet Year is one of the coolest uses of a map to tell a story about the challenges of community. Our hack, The Summer Greening, tells the tale of the valiant hunters of the Spearwood Fellowship in the vast wilderness to the east of the Elder Kingdom. How will they govern their home now that they’ve lost touch with the Elder Kingdom? Will they hold the line against a tide of monsters and elves, or will they falter and fade like so many others?

The Summer Greening is scheduled for a June release in our DriveThruRPG store.

Denvorn Province: An Anthology of Elven Tales

Denvorn Province has marked the eastern frontier of the Elder Kingdom for generations. Where Firecats used to roam the shores of misty Lake Echo, now a relentless drought grips the province. Forest fires send entire villages packing for the safety of the provincial seat. Outlaws strike at the vulnerable with desperate ferocity. Pagan drums beat in the woods by night, and the Elven Wilds writhe in satisfaction. What will you make of the woes of this parched realm? Will you slake the people’s thirst, or will the blaze be a cover for your own nefarious deeds?

This summer, fans of Savage Worlds can look forward to more adventures under the boughs of The Blackwood! Our first Savage Worlds supplement takes a sandbox approach to Fast! Furious! Fun! gaming. Denvorn Province includes information about the settlements and factions that make up life in this eastern frontier of the Elder Kingdom. Which factions will your errants support, and which will they work to undermine and destroy? Will they make life better for the province and its people, or will they wither under the heat of elven mischief?

Denvorn Province: An Anthology of Elven Tales is scheduled for a July release in our DriveThruRPG store.

Thanks again to each and every one of you who have supported The Blackwood with your words, your enthusiasm, and your money. This was been such a wonderful and welcoming first experience in the RPG community.

Now go forth, to walk the Way’s Margin!
